In the twilight of the Kali Yuga, the need for the wisdom of future Marca will arise.
In the cycle of ages, the first is Satya Yuga, followed by Treta Yuga, then Dvapara Yuga, and finally the arrival of Kali Yuga. Currently, the age of Kali Yuga has ended, and we are in the twilight of the ages. The transition period between the end of one age and the beginning of another is called the Yuga Sandhya or the junction of ages. The lifespan of Kali Yuga is considered to be 432,000 years according to Manu Smriti. However, due to the increase in severe sins committed by humans, it will diminish to 427,200 years, and only 4,800 years of Kali Yuga will remain. This is the inevitable limitation. The following verses from Manu Smriti provide evidence of this:
” चत्त्वार्जाहु सहस्राणि तत् कृतम् युगम्,
तस्य तवच्छता सध्या सध्याशश्च तथाविधः”
The verse above suggests that after four thousand years, the Satya Yuga arrives. The duration of those four thousand verses, along with their twilight and dawn, is equivalent to just a hundred verses.
In detail: Duration of Kali Yuga = 4000 years There are two twilight periods at the beginning and end, each of 400 years, totaling 800 years. Hence, the total duration of Kali Yuga is 4,800 years.
In the midst of this, Sudama Ji, the closest associate among the five companions of Lord Vishnu, along with Brahma Gopala, Achyutananda Das Ji Maharaj, guided by the divine direction of the Supreme Lord, adjusted the duration or the time of enjoyment of Kali Yuga to be remembered as 4,800 years, though it’s mentioned to be extended to 5,000 years in future scriptures.
“चारि लक्ष जे बतिश सहस्त्र, कलियुग र अटइ आयुष ।
पाप भारा रे कलि तुटि जिब, पांच सस्र कलि भोग होइब।”

In the aforementioned lines, Achyutananda Das Ji Maharaj explains that – The duration of Kali Yuga is stated to be 432,000 years. However, due to a decrease in human sinfulness, its span will diminish, resulting in only 5,000 years of experience. Based on celestial observations such as eclipses, Kali Yuga has already endured 5,125 years since its commencement. This suggests that Kali Yuga has concluded entirely, and we have transitioned into the era of twilight or the junction of ages, known as Sandhya or Sangam Yuga. Hence, it is essential for societal well-being to heed the guidance provided in future scriptures.

“संसार मध्यरे केमंत जाणिबे नर अंगे देह बहि

Mahapurush Achyutananda Das Ji Maharaj has mentioned in the “Malika Granth” – a collection of aphorisms – that amidst the delusion of materialism, people wander aimlessly, oblivious to the crises of the era or its eventual end. Even the wise and virtuous may stray from the path and become lost in confusion. The spiritual realm will also witness an increase in false pretenses. The current situation of Kali Yuga continues to persist.
“ଯଦି ପଶ୍ଚିମ ଭାଗରେ ସୂର୍ଯ୍ୟ ଉଦୟ ହୁଅନ୍ତି, ଯଦି ଲୋଟସ୍ ପର୍ବତର ଶିଖରରେ ଫୁଟିବ।
“उदयतिः यदि भानु पश्चिम दिग बिभागे, बिकशति यदि पद्म पर्वतानां शिखाये।
प्रचलति यदि मेरु शितो तापती बन्ही, नटलति खडू बाक्य सज्जनानां कदाचित ।”
During the coming times, the sun may rise in the west, the moon may appear in a diminished form, Mount Meru may move from south to north, fire may cool down or even become cold. The Panchasakha: Guardians of Vaishnavism in Medieval Odisha
During the time of the esteemed spiritual leader and incarnation of Namayogi, Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, there existed five renowned saints of Vaishnavism, collectively known as the ‘Panchasakha’. Shishu Anant Das, Achyutananda Das, Jagannath Das, Balaram Das, and Yashwant Das were significant figures in medieval Odisha, profoundly influencing both its spirituality and literature. The Panchasakha sect emerged during Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s propagation of devotion in Bengal. Even prior to Sri Chaitanya’s presence in Odisha, the Panchasakhas upheld the tradition established by the Bhakta poet Jaydev’s ‘Geeta Govinda’, advocating devotion to Radha and Krishna.
All five saints became disciples of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, who referred to them as his ‘Panchasakha’, declaring them akin to his five souls and equating them with incarnations of Lord Vishnu. Living between 1450-1570, the Panchasakhas translated ancient Hindu texts into simple prose, articulating spiritual concepts in accessible language for the common people. Their works, encompassing texts like Pothi, Malika, Tika, and Geeta, not only allowed individuals from lower strata of society to transcend the caste system and embrace devotion to God but also played an unparalleled role in Odisha’s literary and spiritual development.
The Panchasakhas through the Ages
The history of the Panchasakhas spans ages. At the close of each era, these beings born from a part of God descend to Earth, contribute significantly to establishing God’s religion, and then return to God’s Golok Dham. In Satyayuga, they appeared as Kripajal, Narada, Markandeya, Gargava, and Swayambhu Manu. In Tretayuga, they manifested as Nala, Neel, Hanuman, Jamwant, and Sushen. As Dwaparayuga neared its end, Neelkantheshwar Maharaj prophesied to Lord Krishna that his companions Sudama, Dam, Subal, Subahu, and Shrivatsa would reincarnate in Kaliyuga as Achyutananda, Balram, Jagannath, Yashwant, and the child known as Anant. These five saints were Lord Krishna’s closest confidants in Dwaparayuga, returning in Kaliyuga to serve him.
Though the Panchasakhas of Kaliyuga composed numerous texts, the ‘Bhavishya Malika’ stands out prominently among them. Notably, Bhavishya Malika isn’t a single book but a series comprising 185,000 texts. Over 600 years ago, due to a scarcity of paper and pen, most Malika texts were inscribed in the Odia script on palm leaves. Just as Maharishi Valmiki composed the Ramayana before Lord Ram’s incarnation in Treta Yuga and Maharishi Vyas authored the Shrimad Bhagwat Mahapuran prior to Shri Krishna’s incarnation in Dwapar, similarly, in Kaliyuga, Lord Jagannath incarnate wrote the Ramayana before his Kalki incarnation, instructing the Panchasakhas to pen the Bhavishya Malika.
Before the advent of the ‘Kalki Avatar’, the tenth and final incarnation of Lord Vishnu, the Panchasakhas gathered devotees from all four Yugas and recited the Bhavishya Malika scriptures for their salvation. Their aim was to guide them from unrighteousness to righteousness and unite them with the Kalki Avatar. Delving into the events from Kaliyuga to Sangamyuga and from Sangamyuga to Satyayuga, the Panchasakhas sought to awaken devotees’ dormant consciousness through the Bhavishya Malika, warning
of a reduced lifespan to 5,000 years due to humanity’s sins.

According to Bhavishya Malika, several signs will manifest from the Jagannath Temple in Puri, Odisha, signaling the end of Kaliyuga and the advent of Lord Kalki.
Bhavishya Malika prophesies that when Lord Jagannath relinquishes his ethereal form to assume a human body, the Ratan Chandua atop the Ratna Singhasan in the Jagannath temple will catch fire. This incident occurred in 2004-05.
Another significant omen is the presence of ominous birds perched atop the temple. It’s noteworthy that typically no birds are observed flying over the Jagannathpuri temple, and scientists have failed to ascertain the reason. However, Bhavishya Malika predicts that towards the end of Kaliyuga, an ominous bird will be sighted flying above the temple. This phenomenon has occurred multiple times since 2005, with notable instances in 2018, 2020, and 2021.
Additionally, Bhavishya Malika mentions the fluttering of the Purifier Bana above Neelachakra in the wind as a sign. This occurred before cyclonic storms ‘Fani’ and ‘Amphan’ struck the Puri coast in 2019 and 2020, respectively.
The burning of the temple’s flag is also cited as a sign of Kaliyuga’s end. On Papamochani Ekadashi, March 19, 2020, the cloth near Neelchakra ignited due to proximity to a lamp.
Furthermore, frequent instances of stones falling from the temple have been noted since 2005, corroborating another prophecy. These incidents occurred in 2011, 2015, and 2022, among others.
Cyclonic storm ‘Fani’ in 2019 also fulfilled a prophecy by bending the Neelachakra and destroying a centuries-old banana tree in the temple premises.
